They are now just two wins from becoming the first team to ever win three Super Bowls in a row.
But Mahomes is already closing in on making his own history after firing the Chiefs into their seventh straight AFC Championship game.
He is now one away from matching Brady’s record at the New England Patriots of eight in a row.
Overall, Mahomes has plenty of catching up to do with the legendary quarterback as he made 14 conference title games.
Incredibly, the last time the AFC Championship did not feature Mahomes or Brady was in 2010 when Pittsburgh Steelers beat the New York Jets.
Team-mate Travis Kelce was full of praise for Mahomes ahead of the playoffs, telling ESPN: “He’s every bit of a superstar off the field as he is on the field. I consider him family.
“There’s one common denominator from the Chiefs my entire career and that is Andy Reid – but this thing really took off when Patrick Mahomes got here.
“I know everybody knows that, but what I see in the building, his leadership, his ability to relate to everybody and motivate everybody, and be accountable, it’s unique, it’s like nothing else.”
“The greats, they step up in the playoffs, and it’s just higher intensity.
“The best players and the best leaders step up and make the best plays, and he’s done that, so I expect the same from him.”
