Debra Fitch says she has always paid in fairly but when she was left needing the cash she was constantly pushed back by “roadblocks” leaving her desperate for support.

Debra, from Lorain, was happily working for most of her life until she suffered a debilitating disease which left her in pain in both her legs and feet.
This left her needing to quit her job but she knew she still needed to find enough money a month to pay for rent, foot, bills and for her own personal spending.
When people fall ill or suffer from a disability they are often eligible for Social Security funding.
This is often given out to people through the US government to help them afford to live their life regardless of their health complications.
But Debra claims she has never seen a payment from Social Security even after applying for the disability benefit system.
She opened up to News 5 Cleveland about her issues and told them the situation is “really aggravating”.
Debra said: “It’s hard. I try to be patient.
“It’s like really aggravating…(I’m) angry. I had a lot of emotions.”
Due to the lack of cash coming into her account Debra says her life has drastically become worse with a major issue being her housing situation.
She was left unable to afford her water for two years with the roof needing major repair work after it caved in near the kitchen.
Debra believes the system in place to actually be accepted for the payments is where the issue lies.
She continued: “Every time they wanted something from me I was real prompt, sent it in, took it down there.
“But I was never getting nowhere with Social Security and they just kept putting roadblocks up.”
Every time she believed a payment was due there always seemed to be an issue with the Social Security Administration (SSA).
Issues with receiving payments are becoming a growing problem for many Americans.
Elvin Spriggs from West Porthsmouth, Ohio, battled with the system for four years.
At one point he was even left without a roof over his head.
He said: “I have a bone disease, amongst other things, and my body just won’t let me work anymore.
“You can’t sleep because you don’t know who’s coming around the next corner. You don’t know what you’re going to encounter.
“I’m not trying to get rich. I just want what’s owed to me. I put in 35 years for Ohio and this is what I got.”
Disabled Amy Farrell says she has been battling with the agency for months after her condition left her unable to work or even leave her home.
She was forced to move back in with her parents at the age of 55 after her Social Security benefit was repeatedly denied.
She was first denied her Social Security benefits in 2023, and now is struggling to pay for her prescription and doctors’ bills.
What are the different Social Security payments?
Social Security provides a source of income when you retire or if you cannot work due to a disability.
There are four main types of Social Security benefits:
Retirement – a monthly check that replaces part of your income when you reduce your hours or stop working altogether.
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or “disability” provides monthly payments to people who have a disability that stops or limits their ability to work.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) – provides monthly payments to people with disabilities and older adults who have little or no income or resources.
Survivor benefits – monthly payments to eligible family members of people who worked and paid Social Security taxes before they died.
