New York City is the greatest place on earth — and it’s time to start acting like it. The current mayoral administration has left New Yorkers on their own — with trash piling up on the streets, child care remaining unattainable, housing unaffordable, and our public schools falling behind.
Now, as the federal government turns its back on our city, it’s up to New Yorkers to draw a line in the sand and choose competence, vision, and effective leadership over another ineffective and corrupt administration that would fall under Donald Trump’s thumb.
I was born and raised in Washington Heights to a family who cared about public service, and for more than 30 years I’ve followed in their footsteps fighting for New Yorkers — as a tenant organizer, the youngest person ever appointed to a Community Board, an assemblymember, the Manhattan borough president, and the city’s comptroller. I’ve seen up close what works and what doesn’t.
My experience has taught me how to use the levers of government to do big things. I accomplished goals in the comptroller’s office that people thought were impossible. I stood up and beat President Trump during his first term, and I’m ready to do it again.
We don’t have time for a mayor on training wheels making empty promises or someone whose record demonstrates they would lead another administration we can’t trust. This is a time for doing the tough, often unglamorous job of making the city function for all New Yorkers. I will turn my experience into action. I can do the job.
My vision of New York is one of strong, safe communities where families can put down roots and kids can grow up and become the next generation of leaders. A city that continues to attract people because it’s a place where building a good life isn’t so difficult.
I have a serious agenda to solve the serious problems facing our city and ensure that everyone, across the five boroughs, can thrive. I’ll tackle the housing affordability crisis through my Mitchell-Lama 2.0 and ROOF plans — turning vacant lots into truly affordable homes designed for working families, requiring that 50% of all new developments serve low- and middle-income New Yorkers, and ensuring that two- and three-bedroom units are built and preserved across the city.
Solving our housing crisis isn’t just a question of how many units you declare you’re going to build; it’s about committing to building homes that are suitable to those who need them most.
We’ll expand access to child care by ensuring parents pay no more than 7% of their income on child care through my Tri-Share Childcare Fund, which splits the cost of foundational education between one’s employer, the city, and the family. We’ll extend the school day until 4:30 p.m. and launch P.L.A.Y. NYC to make sure parents can continue to work and thrive outside of school hours while putting money back in your pockets.
In the face of the federal government’s numerous financial attacks, New York City can’t afford another mayor who is beholden to Trump — or one who doesn’t understand how to manage the city’s agencies and budget. If you don’t understand the city’s finances, you should not get the job.
My two sons are at the age when they’re starting to navigate the city by themselves. That’s how I know that public safety and quality-of-life issues are the foundation on which everything else depends. We’re going to expand our mental health infrastructure, make services available 24/7, and ensure our police department is uncorrupted and equipped to fight crime.
The challenges we face are complex and daunting. New York needs a mayor who will roll up their sleeves and get the job done. My record demonstrates that I’m the person who can do that. It’s time for an adult in the room, not another showboat or a bully or someone who will have a steep learning curve.
Vision. Experience. Competence. That’s what I bring to the table. If those are the attributes you want in the person running our municipal government, I hope to earn your vote to have the honor of serving as mayor of New York City.
