USPS confirms all post offices will be closed for 24 hours in 2nd shutdown of month – but Amazon packages will arrive

AMERICANS wanting to head to the post office to send letters will be out of luck today.

This is because the closure will fall in line with a federal holiday.

January 20 is not only the day Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the 47th president but the third Monday in the month is also Martin Luther King Jr Day.

Americans commemorate Martin Luther King Day every year to pay respect to the late civil rights leader.

Dr King, born in 1929, worked to end racial segregation within America – on transport and in the workplace.

He was known for delivering the famous I Have a Dream Speech on the National Mall in Washington, DC in 1963.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day was designated a national holiday by ex-president Ronald Reagan in 1983.

All USPS post offices will be closed today, but Americans needn’t despair.

Amazon and FedEx deliveries will still take place.

It will be the second time in the month that USPS branches will fall silent.

Branches across the nation were also closed as part of the federal holiday for Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

Bank branches, including those of Capital One and Bank of America, will also be closed.

Wells Fargo and Chase customers will not be able to withdraw cash from inside stores today.

Citibank and Truist are also on the list of banking chains whose branches will be closed.

Federal government offices will also be closed today.

The New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ will be closed. Normal trading hours will resume on January 21, 2025.

But, there is not a widespread store shutdown on the scale of what would be seen on Thanksgiving.

Major supermarkets such as Walmart operate at normal hours.

Wholesalers such as Costco and Sam’s Club also trade at their standard hours so shoppers needn’t despair.

BJ’s Wholesale Club outlets, Trader Joe’s supermarkets, and Lidl locations will also be open.

Shoppers have been warned that some retailers may trade at different hours today.

Americans will also be able to pick up prescriptions from drugstores like Walgreens and CVS.
