AMERICANS wanting to drop off mail at US Postal Service branches today will be out of luck.
That is because more than 30,000 locations across the entire country will fall silent – January 9.

Outgoing President Joe Biden declared today a day of national mourning for former president Jimmy Carter.
This means that all post offices will be closed, and mail will not be delivered.
But, package deliveries might still take place albeit with a reduced service, according to USPS.
Post office branches will re-open as normal on January 10, and mail deliveries will be re-started.
Americans needing to send parcels shouldn’t despair.
This is because FedEx services will continue as normal.
However, The company has warned that services may be impacted because of the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles.
“Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of our team members,” a statement shared on the company’s website said.
“FedEx is providing pickup and delivery services throughout the affected area as local conditions and restrictions allow.”
Bosses have revealed that contingency plans are in place.
US Postal Service branches are not the only locations closed for the day of mourning.
Trading will not take place on the New York Stock Exchange.
Nasdaq markets will also close as officials mourn Carter’s death.
Biden’s declaration means that all federal departments and agencies will be closed.

Carter’s state funeral will take place at 10am today and has been lying in state for the past two days.
The funeral will take place at the Washington National Cathedral before the former president’s casket will be flown to a Georgia air base.
Biden and former presidents Trump, Obama, Bush, and Clinton will all attend the service.
Trump was seen hand in hand with his wife, Melania, and they paid their own respect to Carter when they visited his coffin in the Capitol.
Later in the afternoon, there will be a service at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains – Carter’s home town – before mourners will line the streets paying respect to the late ex-president.
