Two NYPD officers taken to hospital after shots fired on Staten Island

Two police officers are in the hospital with unspecified injuries after shots rang out on Staten Island Sunday night, police said.

A suspect fired at least one shot in the presence of police officers around 7:30 p.m. near Port Richmond and Post Aves. in Port Richmond, police confirmed. The officers were not hit by the gunfire, but suffered unspecified minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital.

At least one person who may have had a medical episode is in police custody, cops said. Police may be searching for another person of interest, cops said.

In addition to NYPD, federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were at the scene on Sunday night, SI Advance reported.

A Daily News photographer at the scene captured photos showing broken glass on the street, as well as a grounded NYPD drone.
