President Trump fired several trustees at the U.S. Holocaust Museum on Tuesday, including former second gentleman Doug Emhoff, husband of Kamala Harris.
At least eight people on the museum’s council were canned, Jewish Insider reported. All had been appointed by former President Joe Biden.
“Holocaust remembrance and education should never be politicized,” Emhoff, who is Jewish, said in a statement. “To turn one of the worst atrocities in history into a wedge issue is dangerous — and it dishonors the memory of six million Jews murdered by Nazis that this museum was created to preserve.”
Biden appointed dozens of people to the Holocaust Museum board, and not all of them were removed on Tuesday, according to Jewish Insider.
Also dismissed were Ron Klain, Tom Perez, Susan Rice and Anthony Bernal, the New York Times reported. Klain was Biden’s first chief of staff, Perez and Rice were senior advisors and Bernal worked with former First Lady Jill Biden.

Jon Finer, former national security advisor, and Mary Zients, wife of ex-Biden chief of staff Jeff Zients, were also fired Tuesday, Jewish Insider reported. So was Alan Solomont, U.S. Ambassador to Spain under Barack Obama.
Trump, who built an entire reality show personality around firing people, has dismissed thousands of federal government workers since taking office in January. Working alongside Elon Musk, Trump has attempted to dismantle entire government agencies, even ones that were established by Congress.
While in office, Trump has also claimed to combat antisemitism by detaining international college students involved in pro-Palestine protests.
“He’s talking all about fighting antisemitism, but he chooses to make a divisive call on the official arm of the federal government that was created to remember the Holocaust,” Solomont told Jewish Insider.
