Toyota Prius gets tech and tire tweaks for 2025 – but there’s an even bigger change

THE Toyota Prius has received some upgrades for the 2025 model, but that isn’t the change everyone is talking about.

Toyota‘s flagship electric vehicle boasts 19-inch black-finished alloy wheels and a black bumper trim.

And the biggest change coming this year is the new, exclusive color.

The Nightshade grade will mark the color of the alloy wheels, the exterior badging, the shark fin antenna, the front door handles, and the bumper trim.

This shade of black, Karashi, is exclusive to Toyota.

The 2025 Prius comes in three other grades as well as Nightshade – LE, XLE, and Limited.

The recommended retail price for the Prius will start at $28,350 for the LE grade.

With the push of a button, the 2025 Prius will also include the standard selectable Drive modes.

These include normal, eco, and sport.

Normal allows the hybrid system to combine fuel economy and vehicle acceleration.

Eco improves the hybrid system by limiting power in response to light to moderate accelerator pedal input.

Sport enhances dynamic performance and acceleration.

The 2025 Prius also has an available Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system which gives it the capability to deliver added traction when needed.

It uses a motor to drive the rear wheels, enabling stable driving performance when starting, when driving on slippery surfaces, and when turning corners.

This is the latest exciting development for the Japanese automaker, which this week announced a new nearly $45 million investment into designing rockets to go into space.

NIGHTSHADE GRADE UNIQUE FEATURES

Based off the XLE grade, the Nightshade grade has the following unique features:

19-inch alloy wheels with black finish
Black bumper trim
Black shark fin antenna
Blackout badging
Black doorsills
Black 8-way adjustable SofTex®-trimmed front seats with grey stitching
Carbon fiber detail on the dashboard

The automaker is investing the money into Japanese private spaceflight company Interstellar Technologies Inc.

Chairman Akio Toyoda said that the company shouldn’t only be “one car company,” a reference to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who also runs SpaceX.

“We are exploring rockets too, because the future of mobility shouldn’t be limited to just earth or just one car company, for that matter,” he told a news conference in Las Vegas.

Toyota says it expects to leverage its experience with mass-producing vehicles for the production of rockets.

Toyota is taking on Mitsubishi, which has also launched a series of rockets through its subsidiary Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

On Monday, Toyota announced the completion of the first phase of Woven City, which includes housing for residents and inventors.

First announced five years ago, the 175-acre site at the base of Mount Fuji is designed to test and develop new emerging technologies including autonomous vehicles.
