“Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy broke into tears Thursday morning while announcing he was moving to Florida and away from the show’s New York studio.
Doocy, 68, started to cry when he explained he no longer wanted to wake up so early to appear on the morning show’s couch.
“There is one downside — I have a lot of friends in this skyscraper, and I will miss seeing them in person,” he said. “The security guys, the cafe crew, especially the hair and makeup team because they are geniuses at what they do. Exhibit A, ladies and gentlemen. And the closest to my heart, the ‘Fox & Friends’ team — working day and night producing America’s number-one cable morning news show.”
He stressed he was not retiring but would do remote segments from around the country.
“After decades of getting up at 3:30 and driving into NYC in the dark, today is the last day I will host the show…from the couch,” Doocy said. “I am not retiring, I’m not leaving the show. I’m still a host —but it’s time for a change.”
“It is a great job, but the hours suck,” he said, referencing the early start time.
Doocy told Mediaite the change had been in the works for more than a year.
“Not having to be anchored to the NYC studios every day feels great, to be honest,” he told the outlet.
In his unique fashion, President Trump congratulated Doocy on the news in a pre-recorded message that aired on the show.
“I just want to congratulate you on your new and probably enhanced role,” Trump said. “I just think you’re a fantastic guy, you’ve always treated me fairly. Sometimes, a little more fairly than other times, but that’s OK.”
Doocy worked at NBC and CBS before joining Fox News in 1996. He was part of the original “Fox & Friends” lineup when it premiered in 1998.
