Republicans move to take control of the Senate; Scott aims to replace McConnell

Even with election results pending, Republicans were the majority in the U.S. Senate after Tuesday’s election.

Early Wednesday morning, the GOP had 51 victories, including the re-election of U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, who aims to become the majority leader.

Sen. Mitch McConnell, the minority leader, will be retiring.

As of 4 a.m., the Democrats had 42 Senate seats with seven races to be called.
