Republican Rep. Nancy Mace made a bombshell claim about being drugged and raped on the House floor Monday night, then accused South Carolina’s attorney general — her potential opponent in the state’s 2026 gubernatorial race — of doing nothing to help her.

Throughout the day Mace teased to a big announcement she planned to make at 7 p.m. in the nation’s Capitol. Once Monday night’s session got underway, Mace put her hand on a Bible she’d brought, pledged to tell the truth, then accused four South Carolina “predators who hunt women for sport” of sexually exploiting women, including herself.

According to the 47-year-old lawmaker, in November 2023 she unearthed video on her former fiance’s phone showing him and three “business partners” filming at least a dozen women, including Mace, in sexually compromising situations without their consent.

“What I discovered shocked me to my core,” she said.

Some of the victims, including Mace, had been drugged and raped, according to the lawmaker. She said she has no idea if it was her ex or one of his associates who assaulted her. She also wonders if video of the alleged 2022 crime against her is on the Internet.

Mace named all four of the alleged rapists and showed their photos. None of the men she accused has been charged with a crime. Mace alleged more than 10,000 inappropriate videos can be linked to the foursome and claimed to have presented evidence to authorities.

Toward the end of her Monday night speech, she tore into the attorney general for failing to help her. While she was speaking, an aide placed a poster next to Mace featuring a photo of “Do-nothing Attorney General Alan Wilson.”

Attorney General Wilson’s office responded with a statement defending their prosecutors’ record on sex crimes, called accusations to the contrary “politically motivated” and said her claims against the A.G. were “categorically” untrue.

“Miss Mace either does not understand or is purposefully mischaracterizing the role of the Attorney General,” Wilson’s office said in a statement. “At this time, our office has not received any reports or requests for assistance from any law enforcement or prosecution agencies regarding these matters. Additionally, the Attorney General and members of his office have had no role and no knowledge of these allegations until her public statements.”

Neither Wilson or Mace have announced their possible intentions to run for governor when term-limited Gov. Henry McMaster steps down.

In 2020, Mace came forward to say she’d been raped more than two decades earlier and never discussed it publicly. That incident wound up at the heart of a lawsuit against ABC News host George Stephanopoulos when he asked Mace how, as a rape victim, she can support Donald Trump, who was found “liable for rape” in a civil court.

Trump, who was found responsible for sexually abusing author E. Jean Carroll decades ago, sued ABC News over Stephanopoulos’ choice of words. The network settled the case by committing $15 million to Trump’s presidential library.
