A 24-year-old motorcyclist was killed on the Long Island Expressway in Queens when he crashed into an SUV and was then run over by a driver who did not remain at the scene, police said Monday.
Kahyl Pena was riding a 2019 Kawasaki west on the expressway when he veered to his right, using the shoulder to pass a vehicle near 97th St. in Corona about 3:45 p.m. Thursday, cops said.
When Pena moved back to the left he struck a 2024 Mazda CX-5’s rear left side, flew off the motorcycle and landed in the center lane, where he was struck by the rear tire of another vehicle, police said. That driver kept going, police said.
The 26-year-old man behind the wheel of the SUV remained at the scene and was not charged. The second driver, who was apparently unaware they had struck the victim, has not been located by cops.
Pena was rushed by medics to Elmhurst Hospital but could not be saved. He lived in Astoria, according to cops.
