NFL fans rage after YouTube TV announces massive hike ahead of playoffs as service more than doubles in price since 2019

YOUTUBE TV has sent a message to its customers, revealing an increase in its streaming service’s base plan – and NFL fans are furious.

The price hike will go into effect ahead of the NFL playoffs, and immediately for new subscribers.

On Thursday, YouTube TV announced that they will be raising the monthly price of their base plan.

However, they will up the price by a whopping $10, citing “the rise of the content” and other investments.

The monthly price of $72.99 for the YouTube TV base plan will now be up to $82.99.

The new price tag will go into effect next month on January 13, and for new subscribers who sign up moving forward.

“We don’t make these decisions lightly, and we realize this impacts our members,” YouTube said on X.

Predictably, NFL fans shared their displeasure with YouTube TV’s latest decision.

“I plan on canceling YouTube TV at the end of the NFL season, I urge everyone to do the same,” one wrote.

“I gave up on YouTube TV years before it got this bad. Used to be reasonable, but that NFL contract must have f***ed up their bottom line,” another wrote.

“I’ll be canceling YouTube TV for the NFL offseason due to its price hike. Greed, greed, greed…..” a third added.

YouTube TV has launched numerous price hikes in recent memory.

When YouTube TV began in 2017, the price of its streaming package was just $35 per month.

In 2019, the price tag rose to $50 and has increased ever since.

In March of 2023, the service raised its price from $64.99 to $72.99.

Earlier increases took place when YouTube TV added more channels for customers to stream live.

The latest price jump can be attributed to YouTube TV paying over $2 billion per year to the NFL for the exclusive rights to Sunday Ticket.

YouTube TV allows customers to access more than 100 channels from broadcast, cable, and regional sports networks as well as a DVR with unlimited storage.

The streaming package also advertises up to six accounts per household with three concurrent streams.

The latest price increase won’t change the incentives of the base plan.

YouTube TV’s new $82.99 price will now be the same as Disney’s Hulu + Live TV bundle.
