Park district hosting meetings on potential referendum
Naperville Park District will hold four open house-style events to answer questions about a bond sale referendum question that may be on the March 17 ballot.
They are scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the South Maintenance Facility, 3415 Book Road; 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Fort Hill Activity Center, 20 Fort Hill Drive; and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the South Maintenance Facility.
The park district is considering a $135 million referendum in which voters will be asked to approve funding for a variety of capital improvement projects throughout Naperville. A final decision on proceeding with the referendum will be made December after community input is considered, officials said.
Community surveys in recent years indicate residents have a strong interest in additional indoor recreation space with aquatics, park improvements, refrigerated outdoor ice rinks and more open space, according to the district’s website.
Proceeds from the bond proposal could fund a new community activity center at Frontier Sports Complex, site improvements at Nike Sports Complex, Country Lakes Park and Wolf’s Crossing Community Park, refrigerated outdoor seasonal ice rinks at the Community Garden Plots parking lot, and the purchase of additional open space, the website said.
