Miami-Dade trash incinerator drama now on radar of Trump family

President-elect Donald Trump could get involved in the battle over the future site of Miami-Dade’s new trash incinerator.

Last week, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine-Cava recommended that the new facility be built in Doral, where the former incinerator burned to the ground in February of 2023, as opposed to finding a new site for the yet-to-be-built replacement.

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Juan Bermudez, who represents Doral, said he met with Eric Trump, son of Donald Trump, about the issue Tuesday.

Bermudez said that a new facility at the old site could impact Trump National Doral Resort, which he called “the jewel of our community” in a statement released Tuesday night.

The commission is expected to debate the future site at its meeting on Dec. 3.
