A South Elgin man was arrested on charges he allegedly brandished a knife at two juveniles Tuesday evening on the grounds of an elementary school in South Elgin, police said.
Brandon J. Mumme, 43, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault on public property in connection with the incident that occurred about 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Clinton Elementary School at 770 Mill St., according to the South Elgin Police Department.
Two juveniles were reportedly riding electric scooters in the lot around when a vehicle cut them off and triggered an argument between the driver, identified as Mumme, and the juveniles, according to reports.
Mumme is a member of the evening cleaning crew working at the school but is not a School District U-46 employee, officials said.
When the juveniles returned to take a picture of the vehicle’s license plate, Mumme allegedly exited the building and confronted them with a pocketknife, police said. They fled and called 911. When police met with Mumme, he admitted pulling the knife and chasing the juveniles, police said.
Mumme was arrested on the charges and served with a trespass notice that prohibits him from entering any School District U-46 property.
