A 46-year-old man was pronounced dead after he was wounded in a shooting Wednesday night on the West Side in the North Lawndale neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 8 p.m., the victim was on a sidewalk in the 1200 block of South Springfield Avenue when someone approached, pulled out a gun and fired shots in his direction, police said.
The victim was wounded to the neck and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
He was identified as Dillard Florence of the 1100 block of North Karlov Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
