The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback sprained his left ankle and suffered a thigh contusion during the game.

Herbert said on Wednesday that he “didn’t think I was able” to take full-speed reps in practice, which is why he sat out.

This is the second ankle injury that Herbert has suffered this season, and he said this one “could be a lot worse.”

“I would say that this one is probably not as severe,” Herbert said, via Kris Rhim of ESPN.com.

“It’s definitely painful enough to be able to miss a practice, but I feel like I’ve been able to move around a little bit better this week than I did after Carolina, where I was put into a boot and had difficulty walking.”

Herbert did acknowledge that it was difficult to move in the pocket when he was hurt even though it doesn’t feel severe.

“It was difficult to play with,” he said.

“It was one of those things where we limited some of the runs out of the pocket.

“I didn’t feel great, but it was one of those things to play through.”

The main issue is the ankle sprain, with Herbert admitting that the thigh contusion is almost a non-factor.

“The contusion, I think that is something that is easily recoverable. I’m doing everything I can with the ankle,” Herbert said.

“If I felt like I could have practiced at 100 percent and make sure everyone was able to get full-speed reps, I would have.

“I didn’t think I was able to do that today, so the trainers and I were on the same page.”

The Chargers are on a bit of a skid lately, losing two of their last three games, and they will need Herbert at his best for their playoff push.
