The heartless subway mugger who slashed and badly wounded a woman on an empty Manhattan train car will stay locked up following his arrest late last week.
Brandon Balfour, 18, was held without bail following his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court Sunday for slashing a 29-year-old woman in the arm and back during a mugging on a No. 3 train in lower Manhattan on Aug. 6.
Balfour entered the train car before it stopped at the Wall St. station and approached the victim. She tried to move away from Balfour, but he followed her and demanded her bag, threatening to stab her, prosecutors and cops said.
The woman tried to resist and looked around for help – but was then slashed with a sliver kitchen knife. Balfour then took off with the victim’s cell phone at the Wall St. station and ran out the exit, where he was recorded leaving the station, cops said.
No one else was in the train car other than the victim and Balfour, prosecutors said.
The wounds pierced her diaphragm, causing her internal organs to shift, which required significant and extensive surgery to keep her alive, prosecutors said. The woman suffered injuries to her left arm, left elbow, both hands and back, cops said. EMS rushed her to Bellevue Hospital.
Balfour was arrested two days later and charged with attempted murder, assault and robbery after two cops identified him from surveillance photos.
Cops located Balfour at a Queens shelter where they located the yellow mask he was wearing and the stolen cell phone, which was covered in blood.
