Handcuffed suspect escapes NYPD custody, sparking Bronx manhunt

A handcuffed suspect escaped NYPD custody in the Bronx early Tuesday, sparking a manhunt, police said.

The 5-foot-8 suspect gave police the slip near Park Ave. and Claremont Parkway in Mott Haven about 5:30 a.m., cops said.

He was still handcuffed when he ran off, police sources said.

Scores of officers were sent to the area to search for the escapee, who remains on the loose.

The escape comes one week after gun suspect Eric Cruz managed to slip away from a cop watching him at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia in Manhattan and run off while still wearing a hospital gown.
