Carpentersville cops write 104 speeding tickets during campaign

A traffic safety campaign held July 8 through Aug. 1 resulted in Carpentersville police issuing 104 citations for speeding.

The campaign was part of a statewide “Speed Catches Up With You” effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois State Police aimed at reducing highway fatalities and injuries associated with speeding, according to a news release.

During the enforcement period, Carpentersville police also issued two seat belt citations, made one drug-related arrest; pulled over five people for driving with suspended or revoked licenses and six for not having insurance; and issued eight citations for using a cellphone while driving.

“We continue to urge all drivers traveling through our community to slow down, obey speed limits and drive responsibly,” Police Chief Todd Shaver said in the release. “Every decision you make behind the wheel matters. It’s truly not a game.”
