Gowns for Good sale being held July 13-15 at The Haight

This year’s second Gowns for Good dress sale will be held July 13-15 at The Haight, 165 Symphony Way, Elgin.

This free, appointment-only event offers hundreds of bridal, bride’s maid, mother of the bride/groom, gala and prom dresses at deeply discounted prices, according to a news release. Proceeds will benefit YWCA Elgin, PADS of Elgin and Go with the Flow.

“Gowns For Good isn’t just about finding the perfect dress,” event organizer Kari Goodmay said in the release. “It’s about making a difference in the lives of women and families right here in our community. Every gown sold supports nonprofits that empower, shelter and care for local residents in meaningful ways.”

Attendees can sign up to attend in groups of no more than four people.Those trying on items should bring formal footwear and shapewear. Infants and children are not allowed, the release said.

Woofstock animal rescue fundraiser being held in East Dundee

Hoof, Woof & Meow Animal Rescue will hold its 12th annual  “Woofstock” fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 29, outside The Depot, 319 N. River St., East Dundee.

The event to benefit the Elgin-based nonprofit will feature raffles, kids crafts, music and adoptable pets, according to the rescue group’s website. Money raised will help pay for animal food, supplies and medical care.

State Rep. Ness helps secure $2 million for local projects

State Rep. Suzanne Ness, D-Crystal Lake, has announced more than $2 million in funding for projects across District 66.

Appropriations include $400,000 for Carpentersville to repair and relocate water and sewer connections along the Fox River; $200,000 for Sleepy Hollow to do culvert and curb repair work; and $100,000 for the Association for Individual Development in Elgin to fund building rehabilitation.

“These appropriations are a testament to what we can accomplish when we work together across communities to meet shared challenges and seize local opportunities,” Ness said in the release.

Others allocations include:

$500,000 for Family Health Partnership in Crystal Lake to assist in keeping the clinic free for patients;
$300,000 to Algonquin for Woods Creek headwater restoration;
$300,000 to Crystal Lake to replace the city’s public works building garage floor;
$200,000 to Lake in the Hills to replace well valves.

Siegle Foundation awards more than $320,000 in grants

The Seigle Foundation has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project and a collective $300,000 to 10 other area nonprofit organizations.

The Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project’s mission is to improve working conditions and opportunities for low-wage workers regardless of immigration status in the farming, landscaping, food service and snow plowing industries through advocacy, community outreach and education, according to a news release.

Other Siegle Foundation grants totaling were awarded to Alignment Collaborative for Education; Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley; Enriching Partnerships for Early Learning; Kids Above All Illinois; Summit School; Boys and Girls Clubs of North Central Illinois; The Literacy Connection; Clearbrook; YWCA Elgin; and Three Fires Council-Scouting America.
