THOUSANDS of drivers have been affected after a mass outage at the DMV left them unable to sort their fines or license issues.
So far there is no timeline for when the issue will be resolved with the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV).
A DMV outage is affecting thousands of drivers in Louisiana
The issue has affected drivers in Louisiana, where a statewide DMV system outage has left offices unable to process transactions.
“OMV’s system is temporarily down and we are currently unable to process driver’s license, vehicle registration, and reinstatement transactions,” a spokesperson for the Louisiana OMV told The U.S. Sun.
“We do not have an estimated time of restoration.”
The statement went on, “We appreciate your patience as our vendor works to restore service.
“Updates will be posted here as soon as the system is operational again.”
OMV Deputy Director Austin Badon told local CBS affiliate 4WWL that the department’s computer “mainframe system” had gone down.
Drivers have reacted to the news on social media.
“OMV system down, hoping this is not a cyber attack deal,” one user wrote on X.
“If you have an appointment today, you may want to consider rescheduling,” added another.
A third, addressing Louisiana’s Governor Jeff Landry, wrote, “With all the Lumen, AT&T, Verizon, and last year’s statewide OMV hack, it doesn’t feel like enough is being done to protect our digital infrastructure.”
