Deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1100 block of Northeast 10th Street shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of gunfire near the Pompano Beach Airpark.

“The preliminary investigation revealed two male individuals sustained gunshot wounds,” BSO spokesperson Claudinne Caro told Local 10 News.

Deputies said both victims were taken to North Broward Hospital, where one was pronounced dead after arriving by ambulance, while the other, brought by private vehicle, is recovering.

Both directions of 10th Street near Northeast 11th Avenue were temporarily closed as detectives comb through the scene.

Deputies placed multiple evidence markers on the sidewalk and focused on a backpack abandoned near the site of the shooting. A neighbor reported hearing at least two gunshots around the time of the incident.

“I’m scared, I was scared — I feel pain in my belly, I was looking for the bathroom — I was scared,” said Jessenia, a resident of the area.

Deputies used a K-9 unit and a drone to map the crime scene, but details about what led to the shooting remain unclear at this time.

Cellphone footage captured by a witness showed first responders performing CPR on one of the victims. The graphic nature of the video prompted officials to blur portions before its release.
