THE New Year is just around the corner and Subaru is preparing an exciting new upgrade to one of its best-loved models.
The Japanese carmaker is set to release its much-anticipated Forester Hybrid in 2025, having teased the vehicle at last year’s LA Auto Show when the next-gen SUV debuted last year.

At the time, Subaru of America’s President Jeff Walters said the hybrid would arrive roughly a year after the gas-powered version, meaning sometime in the middle of 2025.
This can now be confirmed, thanks to Motor1’s investigative skills.
The outlet revealed that Subaru’s website briefly mentions the Forester Hybrid arriving for the 2025 model year, meaning that the mid-2025 timeframe likely means it’ll be heading to showrooms by June or July.
What’s more, launching the car any later would risk pushing it close to the 2026 model year.
The launch of the hybrid-powered SUV will be Subaru’s latest foray into electrification since the release of the Crosstrek in 2023.
According to Motor1, the Forester Hybrid’s electric motor and battery will be produced by Toyota – in a nod to the partnership between the two brands which culminated in the Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X EVs being nearly identical.
The outlet claims the powertrain will likely use the same setup that debuted earlier this year on the new Crosstrek Hybrid in Japan, which is a 2.5-liter boxer-four with a single electric motor, which would allow the Forester to run electric-power only for short periods.
Naturally, the Forester Hybrid will stick with Subaru’s all-wheel-drive system.
This comes as we revealed earlier in the week that the new Forester will be given a major makeover for 2025.
It’s been noted that the updated Forester will look much more like an SUV, leaving behind the old (and dated) station wagon look it’s long been associated with.
However, the Legacy, Subaru’s iconic all-wheel-drive sedan, is set to be discontinued after 35 years on sale – as the manufacturer looks to switch its focus to SUVs
The model first appeared back in 1989 and is Subaru’s longest running model line, existing over six generations.
Originally only meant for the US market, it was Subaru’s first car to be built on American soil and some 1.3 million units have been sold over the years.
But now it’s reportedly being pulled to make way for a new era of EVs and SUVs – with demand for mid-size sedans “diminished.”
Subaru revealed the popular model will be completely gone by next spring.
Elsewhere, drivers in New York City worried about yet another bump in tolls starting next year have been given some relief.
The new $9 toll to drive into Midtown Manhattan was rumored to soar another 25% — to $11.25 — on gridlock alert days.
But after fierce backlash, New York Governor Kathy Hochul acknowledged that the ‘surge-pricing’ toll won’t be happening after all.
“Hardworking New Yorkers deserve a break, which is why I fought to cut the congestion pricing toll by 40%,” Hochul said to the New York Post in a nod to the fact that the toll’s initial price was $15.
“This will reduce traffic in Manhattan and fund long-overdue investments in public transit, while keeping costs lower for New Yorkers who drive into the city,” she continued.
“We have spoken to the MTA and made it clear: under no circumstances will I allow this discretionary 25% surcharge on gridlock days to be used.”
