ABC News has terminated Terry Moran after the senior national correspondent’s controversial tweet dubbing Trump and his deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller “world-class haters.”
A spokesperson for the Disney-owned network confirmed the move to the Daily News.
“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post — which was a clear violation of ABC News policies — we have made the decision not to renew,” an ABC News representative said in a statement. “At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism.”
The dust-up comes just days after Moran on Sunday applied the “world-class hater” label to both Trump and Miller, according to a screen grab of the since-deleted post.
Miller promptly slammed Moran’s tweet as a “full public meltdown” typical of “the privileged anchors and reporters narrating and gatekeeping our society.”
Within an hour of White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt saying ABC should “hold Terry accountable,” the network announced his suspension.
CNN reports that the former “Nightline” anchor’s contract was set to expire this Friday.
Moran’s remarks came amid days-long protests in Los Angeles regarding the immigration crackdown there and nationwide and the thousands of National Guard soldiers who were sent by the president.
Prior to vocalizing his views on the Trump administration, Moran interviewed the President in late April to commemorate his first 100 days back in office.
At the time of publication, Moran seems to be lying low as his Instagram account appeared to be deactivated.
