‘Nothing to lose’ Biden could pardon Harris – but it’s a gift she wouldn’t want to accept, political analyst warns

JOE Biden could pardon Kamala Harris to stop Donald Trump from pursuing a campaign of retribution against her, a political analyst has told The U.S. Sun.

The outgoing president, 82, issued an unconditional pardon to his son Hunter on Sunday night, sparing him from a prison sentence.

Hunter was convicted of federal gun charges and was due to be sentenced on December 12.

He also faced sentencing in relation to his federal tax conviction.

David Richards, from the University of Lynchburg in Virginia, believes Biden has nothing to lose by pardoning his son.

In an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun, he noted it will be interesting to see who he pardons in the coming weeks.

Presidents traditionally issue a flurry of pardons in the final hours of their term.

Trump pardoned 74 people and commuted the sentences of 70 others before he left office.

Richards said it’s possible Biden could issue a pardon to Kamala Harris, but this would raise eyebrows.

“Could he issue a blanket pardon?” Richards speculated.

“I could see him doing it for Kamala Harris and say, ‘Look, just in case they find anything out or cobble together something over the next four years, I’m going to pardon you so they can’t do that.”

Richards warned accepting a pardon would be fraught with risks.

“If he pardons Harris, she has to do that math because if she runs again, the first thing people are going to say is ‘What did you do that needed pardoning for?” he said.

“It’s almost a gift she wouldn’t want to accept almost from her perspective.”

Harris is reportedly considering the possibility of running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028.

If she did run, she would likely face stiff competition from the likes of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and California Governor Gavin Newsom.

What were the charges against Hunter Biden?

HUNTER Biden was indicted on three felony gun charges in September 2023 after a plea agreement with federal prosecutors unraveled.

Prosecutors claim that on October 12, 2018, Hunter purchased a .38 Colt Cobra revolver from a Delaware gun store and lied on the ATF firearm form when he said he was not abusing drugs.

These were the charges brought against him:

Count 1: Hunter was charged with “knowingly making a fictitious written statement” on a form used for firearms purchases.

Count 2: Hunter allegedly knowingly made false statements and representations to the Wilmington gun store.

Count 3: Hunter was accused of illegally possession a gun while abusing drugs. He owned the gun for 11 days in 2018.

Hunter faced up to 25 years in prison but he has now been pardoned by his father.

The 2028 Democratic field is likely to be stacked with potential candidates.

Former Watergate prosecutors have also touted the idea of issuing pre-emptive pardons.

Jill Wine-Banks told MSNBC Biden should pardon himself, as well as Special Counsel Jack Smith.

Smith has recently dropped Donald Trump’s charges in relation to the January 6, 2021, insurrection.

Trump was indicted on four charges over allegations he orchestrated the riots at the Capitol following his loss in the 2020 election.

The tycoon’s charges in relation to claims he mishandled classified documents at Mar-a-Lago have also been dropped.

While on the trail, Trump vowed to fire Smith within two seconds of taking office.

Sources close to Smith revealed that he would resign before Trump takes office.
