A woman told Gary Police that Corey Jones raped her in a senior apartment bathroom after she declined to perform a sex act with an older man there for $10.
Jones, 43, was charged Wednesday with two counts each of rape, criminal confinement, domestic battery, one count of strangulation and one count of intimidation. He is in custody, held on a $12,000 cash bond.
His next court date is Nov. 12 before Judge Gina Jones.
Officers responded on Nov. 3 to Broadway Avenue after the woman called police. She was “emotionally distressed,” Det. Sean Melendez wrote.
She told investigators that Jones, her boyfriend, choked and raped her in a third-floor apartment at the Gary Housing Authority’s Al Thomas Senior High Rise on the 100 block of W. 11th Avenue.
When police spoke to the “older” man who lived there, he “deflected” questions and refused to “provide simple details,” according to the affidavit.
That morning, she and Jones left a Merrillville hotel where they stayed to walk to several errands. Jones sold a pair of shoes to Plato’s Closet before they went to White Castle, then to a liquor store for vodka.
The pair went to a park for “several hours,” where he “belittled” and accused her of cheating. Later in the day, they sat on benches where Jones threatened to kill her with a rock as they argued.
“I’ll show you how trash you are,” he said.
He pushed the woman toward the nearby apartment building. Inside the unit, she saw the older man and three other men. The older man propositioned Jones for her.
“I know she’s a white girl, so I’ll (have sex with) her anyway,” the older man said, according to the affidavit. He then asked Jones to have the woman perform a sex act.
“I’ll give you $10,” the man said.
“I’ll take $35,” Jones responded.
The woman angrily refused and demanded Jones give her an identification card, LINK card and library card back. Jones forced her into the bathroom.
“If you don’t (have sex with) him, I’ll kill you,” he said.
After the woman demanded to leave, Jones choked her, pressing his thumbs against her throat until she passed out. When she woke up, he was raping her. He took her underwear afterwards, saying he didn’t want her with his “DNA.”
She threw a strawberry daiquiri can at his head, the affidavit states.
“Now, I’m really going to kill you,” he responded.
The woman went past the older man, who was alone in the apartment, and left. She walked south on Broadway and used someone’s cellphone to call the police.
She told police Jones beat her several times, but hadn’t raped her before. She didn’t file charges in the past because he would threaten her, noting she was “terrified” of him.
Jones was arrested on the 1100 block of Broadway Ave.
