Austin Target shooting victims ID’d, including 4-year-old girl

The three people who were killed in the shooting at a Target in Austin, Texas, were identified Tuesday by police.

Target employee Hector Leopoldo Martinez Machuca, 24, and shopper Adam Chow, 65, were both fatally shot in the store’s parking lot, authorities said.

Chow’s 4-year-old granddaughter was also killed. Cops did not publicly name her, but she was identified as Astrid Fung in a GoFundMe set up for the family.

“Astrid brought joy, laughter, and light to everyone she touched,” the fundraiser reads. “She is deeply loved by her family, teachers, classmates, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her.”

Martinez Machuca was collecting shopping carts in the parking lot, while the Chow family was just getting ready to enter the store, cops said. Chow’s wife, who was not identified, was wounded in the shooting.

Ethan Nieneker, 32, has been identified by police as the gunman. He was arrested about 18 miles south of the shooting scene after stealing various vehicles, including the Chow family’s car, and tearing off his clothes.

Investigators said Nieneker opened fire randomly and did not target any specific victims. Nieneker has a history of mental health issues and run-ins with police, including several arrests, authorities said.

“He said that he was Jesus and there was really no reason whatsoever given,” Austin police officer Nathan Sexton said Tuesday. “It was a completely random choosing of the victims.”
