‘Budding serial killer’ in Philly gets 40-80 years for stabbing attacks on homeless

A “budding serial killer” who dressed as WWE’s The Undertaker before stabbing homeless people on the streets of Philadelphia was sentenced Wednesday to 40 to 80 years in prison, prosecutors said.

Dshawn Crawford had pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing Marcos Torres, 43, and wounding another man during two attacks in 2023, local Fox affiliate WXTF reported.

“Left on the street for a longer period of time, Dshawn Crawford might well have become known as a serial killer,” Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said at a press conference. “It’s not a phrase I use lightly.”

On Feb. 24, 2023, Crawford dressed in black pants, black boots and a long dark jacket, then topped off the outfit with a black hat and animal bones before stabbing a man sleeping on the street nearly 20 times, according to investigators. The outfit resembled that of the WWE Hall of Famer known as The Undertaker.

One week later, Crawford dressed in the same outfit and fatally stabbed Torres while the victim was sleeping in a tent, police said. He was arrested shortly after.

Crawford’s sentence was announced alongside the arrest of another man, 27-year-old Naeem Morgan, who was charged with assaulting six different homeless people throughout the city.

“It does not matter that these victims are not rich,” Krasner said. “It does not matter that they are not connected. It does not matter that they face challenges. You mess with them, we’re coming for you.”
