Man, 66, fatally wounded in drive-by shooting in Grand Crossing neighborhood

A 66-year-old man was fatally wounded Tuesday night in a drive-by shooting on the South Side in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Around 11:20 p.m., officers responded to a call of a person shot in the first block of West 79th Street and found a man with gunshot wounds to the chest and neck. He was taken to UChicago Medicine where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation revealed the man was standing outside when a dark-colored sedan approached and someone inside pulled out a firearm and fired shots before fleeing the scene.

No one was in custody for the fatal attack and detectives were investigating.
