ABC News suspends Terry Moran after ‘world-class hater’ tweet

ABC News suspended correspondent Terry Moran, who interviewed Trump just two months ago, for savaging deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller on X as a “world-class hater” in a since-deleted post after the White House lashed out.

The most interesting thing about Miller is “not brains. It’s bile,” the network’s senior national correspondent and former “Nightline” anchor wrote, describing Miller as a “world-class hater” who derives “spiritual nourishment” from acting on his hatreds. He labeled Trump as a world-class hater as well.

The journalist deleted the tweet shortly after and made no further comments. But the White House caught a screen shot and condemned Moran, calling the post “unhinged and unacceptable,” White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said on social media, calling on ABC to “hold Terry accountable” and telling an interviewer he should be “suspended or terminated.”

ABC News announced Moran’s suspension about an hour later.

“ABC News stands for objectivity and impartiality in its news coverage and does not condone subjective personal attacks on others,” a spokesperson told CNN. “The post does not reflect the views of ABC News and violated our standards — as a result, Terry Moran has been suspended pending further evaluation.”

It’s rare for a high-profile correspondent to post what amounts to fiery political commentary on a public platform, CNN pointed out. Moran’s message appeared soon after 2,000 National Guard troops were deployed to quell protests against ICE raids in Los Angeles, The Wrap noted.

In a post on X, Miller fired back vilifying the entire “corporate press,” writing: “For decades, the privileged anchors and reporters narrating and gatekeeping our society have been radicals adopting a journalist’s pose. Terry pulled off his mask.”

It wasn’t the first time Miller has been fingered as cruel, the Southern Poverty Law Center pointed out. The Trump administration official has masterminded an immigration policy that separates families, blocks asylum seekers and summarily deports immigrants without due process. Miller even entertained the idea of doing away with habeas corpus, the right to due process, for anyone — a right written into the Constitution.

Under Trump, the administration is also pressuring ICE agents to arrest more in a process that has rounded up U.S. citizens, children, and green card holders. At one minute after midnight on Monday, a ban on travelers from a dozen predominantly Muslim countries goes into effect, a policy orchestrated by Miller.

Vice President JD Vance, in blasting Moran’s post, said Miller’s actions are “motivated by love of country.”
