Woman stabbed in the neck inside Manhattan homeless shelter

A woman was slashed in the neck after an argument Tuesday inside a Manhattan homeless shelter, cops said.

The 41-year-old victim started arguing with her assailant around 1:59 p.m. at the Bowery Hanbee Hotel on Grand St. and Bowery in Chinatown. After the attack, police were called and the victim, who had a stab wound to her neck, was rushed by EMS to Bellevue Hospital, where she was in stable condition.

A person of interest was taken into custody shortly after the incident, cops said.

The hotel sparked controversy in 2022, when it was being transitioned into a shelter.

On March 5, a 59-year-old man died after he was bashed in the head inside a Bronx Safe Haven apartment building on E. 146th St. near Third Ave. in Mott Haven. There were no witnesses to the attack. The building was run by the nonprofit Comunilife, which provides transitional housing for people with HIV, mental illness and other chronic conditions.
