Walmart shoppers demand update as convenient payment method still not rolled out – customers say ‘time to get serious’

WALMART shoppers have urged the supermarket chain to provide an update over its contactless payment services.

The retailer, which has a portfolio of 4,000 stores, has not yet added Apple Pay to its list of payment options.

Walmart is one of the few retailers that do not allow shoppers to use the contactless service, which has been adopted by 90% of American companies, according to Capital One data.

Bosses have explained why the chain appears to be an anomaly.

Despite this, shoppers have demanded an update on when Apple Pay will be a feature in Walmart stores.

“It’s time to get serious,” one blasted on X.

“Why do you not accept Apple Pay?” another asked.

“That is utterly stupid.”

Walmart has received a barrage of demands from shoppers over the payment method.

Shoppers have admitted they’ve been left baffled by the chain’s decision.

“So why don’t Walmart have Apple Pay again?” one said.

“I’m confused. It’s 2025 and they [sic] still in 2016.”

Customers have bemoaned how they’ve had to go to other stores once they realized they cannot pay for items using Apple Pay.

Shoppers are struggling to comprehend why Walmart is the exception when other chains have integrated Apple Pay.

“Walmart needs to get with the times,” a shopper said.

“It’s time to have Apple Pay at all the registers.”

Why doesn’t Walmart offer Apple Pay?

CEO of Walmart Doug McMillon has revealed why stores don’t offer Apple Pay on Stratechery with Ben Thompson.

Though using Apple Pay at the retailer has been an ongoing conversation, McMillon emphasized that “We would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time.”

The app can be used to help find items in the store, but it can also be used to pay for your purchases.

“That’s one of the things that we would like people to use our app for,” he said.

Last year, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon explained why the contactless service hasn’t been rolled out.

McMillon didn’t seem to rule out potentially rolling out Apple Pay in the future, according to an interview with Stratechery.

“Those conversations are ongoing. I think in our case, we would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time,” he said.

Walmart Pay is a form of contactless payment.

Shoppers can store their payment cards in a digital wallet as well as their receipts.

Hobby Lobby is also another chain that doesn’t allow shoppers to pay for goods via Apple Pay.

But Home Depot bosses have confirmed the contactless payment service is now available for shoppers.
