McCarthy, 61, now appears set to stay at the franchise despite interest from the Chicago Bears.

ESPN have reported the Cowboys have denied the Bears the opportunity to interview the coach.

The report suggests that the Bears requested permission to speak to McCarthy over a new job.

They were denied permission by the Cowboys which would see him stay in his current role.

The Cowboys were able to do this as they still have exclusivity rights.

However, his stay could still come to an end in a few days as his contract runs out on January 14.

It comes after the Cowboys endured a disappointing season under McCarthy.

The team finished with a record of 7-10 which followed on from a defeat to wild-card Green Bay Packers at the end of the 2023 season.

Despite the struggles on the field, Jones has given praise to McCarthy during his five seasons in charge.

In December, Jones insisted that the team was “growing” under his leadership.
