The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting early Wednesday morning in Gary that left a man dead.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the Gary SWAT team was conducting an operation around 6:40 a.m. in the 600 block of Adams Street when a man was fatally shot, according to a Lake County Sheriff’s Department news release. The shooting occurred outside of a residence.
The man was identified as 46-year-old Gary resident David Martin, according to a Lake County Coroner’s Office release. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.
Around 7 a.m., detectives with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department were brought in to investigate the shooting, the sheriff’s release stated. Lake County CSI will assist in handling the shooting.
Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. said in the release that no further details will be released at this time.
