Deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office are investigating a possible coordinated package theft scheme in Lauderdale Lakes, where residents said a woman and her accomplice were caught on surveillance camera stealing a delivery from a homeowner’s porch and delivery trucks in the area.
The incident occurred about two weeks ago in the area of Northwest 36th Terrace and 29th Court.
In the video, the woman casually walked past Glen Thurston’s home before returning to swipe a package from his doorstep. She quickly dashed away as a white SUV pulled up and appeared to toss the stolen package into the vehicle and jumped in before the pair drove off.
Thurston reported that the woman and her accomplice were seen by residents following delivery trucks and stealing packages shortly after they were dropped off in the area.
“In other cameras from my other neighbors and from the association we saw the UPS truck going to another address we saw that same white truck,” he said.
Thurston told Local 10 News that the package that was swiped was carrying a double-decker air fryer that he gifted to his mom.
Authorities said surveillance footage from neighbors corroborates the incident, showing the same white SUV following UPS trucks in the area.
Thurston has reached out to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, which is currently investigating the thefts.
“I feel violated,” he said. “Now I think I’m just going to have my orders delivered here to work.”
In a related incident, Local 10 News recently reported a similar package theft in Hialeah on Monday.
In that case, an unidentified man followed a FedEx driver and attempted to steal a package by pretending to be a resident. An attentive employee intervened, capturing a photo of the man’s vehicle and preventing the theft.
Ring video posted online shows the driver, while making a delivery on Friday afternoon, being approached by a man wearing a grey hoodie.
Police said the man claimed to be the homeowner and wanted to take the packages, which contained new iPhones.
But the driver, who hasn’t been publicly identified, wasn’t buying it. He asked the man to open the door to prove he lived there.
“Open the door,” the delivery driver could be heard saying.
The real homeowner, who asked to be identified only by his first name, Anthony, was watching the scene play out remotely.
“He said, ‘No, you don’t live here – and if you do live here, open the door and show me some ID and I’ll give you the phones,’” Anthony recalled.
The man was then seen driving away in a red Hyundai.
FedEx released a statement to Local 10 News regarding the incident, which read, in part:
“The security of our customers’ shipments is our top priority, and we appreciate our courier’s quick actions to make sure the shipment was delivered to its intended recipient. We encourage any customer who believes a shipment has been stolen to immediately contact local law enforcement.”
Authorities are investigating both incident and are asking anyone with information to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
