Chris Paul to reunite with Clippers for 21st NBA season: report

Chris Paul is returning to the site of some of his best seasons.

The 40-year-old point guard agreed to a contract with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to reports, reuniting him with the franchise that he spent six seasons with from 2011-17.

It’s a one-year, $3.6 million deal, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes.

Paul, who is entering his 21st season, had cited a desire to be closer to his L.A.-based family.

“My son just turned 16. My daughter’s 12,” Paul said last month on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show.” “The past six seasons, I’ve lived without them.”

Paul received five All-Star selections and five top-10 finishes in MVP voting during his six seasons with the Clippers, with whom he averaged 18.8 points and 9.8 assists per game.

Los Angeles went to the playoffs all six years but never advanced past the second round.

A 12-time All-Star, Paul joins a Clippers roster headlined by Kawhi Leonard and James Harden. He is set to become Los Angeles’ latest veteran addition of the offseason, following John Collins and Bradley Beal.

The Clippers went 50-32 and finished fifth in the Western Conference last season, only to be eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets. Paul, meanwhile, is coming off of a season in which he started all 82 games for the San Antonio Spurs and averaged 8.8 points and 7.4 assists per game.

Monday’s agreement reunites Paul and Harden, who played two seasons together with the Houston Rockets from 2017-19.

Paul also played for the New Orleans Hornets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors.

During last month’s “McAfee” interview, Paul said he felt strong physically but that he did not want to play much longer, stressing his desire to spend more time with his family.
